Our lives are often the intersection of different stories, and if we only tell or listen to one single version of a place or event, our perception of the world will be filled with stereotypes and biases.

For me, as my undergraduate background is media and communications, I have a deep understanding of media representation, how people use the power of media to manipulate others, and how I try to keep my thoughts from being manipulated by others.
If you haven't been to a place or experienced an event, then you just do not have first-hand personal experience, all sources of information are obtained second-hand, and the information is processed through other media. Media re-presentation, which is a re-processed information that will be added with personal bias and emotion, and is incomplete. So if you do not personally experience the event, but learn about it through media re-presentation, then the information you receive is only what they want you to see. If you listen too much to the SINGLE STORY, then the world in your eyes will gradually deviate from the real world, and your mind will be manipulated by the media and power. I was also thinking about why the instructor let us watch this TED talk in the hypercinema class. My idea is that when we do storytelling with video and sound, our thoughts and core ideas should not be limited, and we should try to show the truth in our re-presentation.
